Warm up on a Winter Day

Any whiskey and most brandy and rum cocktails are great choices for cold winter days to warm you up from the inside out. Here are some favorite recipes to warm up with on the chilliest days and nights of the year after shoveling the snow, a great day of skiing or hiking or while cuddling up to watch your favorite movie.

More Warm Drinks and Winter Cocktails

1. Hot Toddy

This is a personal favorite as the honey and lemon add sweetness to the tea and brandy. I have also found that dark rum and bourbon make great substitutions for the brandy. For a quick warm up when coming in from the cold, this is the number one choice and most of the ingredients are already in the kitchen or wet bar.

2. Irish Coffee

If you're looking for a mid-day warm up that gets you ready to go back out there and face the cold, nothing is easier than brewing a cup of coffee and adding your favorite dark spirit.

3. Bloody Mary

Granted, a Bloody Mary uses vodka instead of the darker, warmer liquors, however the hot pepper sauce adds the warmth needed to warm up the body. Adding more hot sauce or choosing one with a hotter pepper base like habenero to kicks up the heat even more.

4. Hot Buttered Rum

The spicy, sweet and warm qualities of Hot Buttered Rum mix together to create a wonderful fireside cocktail. Kick off your boots, put on a warm sweater and light the fireplace, sit down and relax after a hard day of outdoor work or play.

5. Rusty Nail

For a warm up on the rocks, choosing a stronger malt scotch such as Ardbeg and using less Drambuie is an excellent combination.

6. Irish Canadian

Two blends of whiskey in a cocktail glass. This one will warm you up, quench your whiskey thirst and still look as classy as any Martini.

7. Sneaky Pete

A creamy cocktail with rye whiskey is a great treat for those blistery days. The Sneaky Pete is whiskey's answer to the Black and White Russians.

8. Toastie (shooter)

A shot that is gauranteed to warm up your blood and taste good too. The cinammon schnapps used in a Toastie is perfect for the coldest of days and you can feel the warm up the minute it touches your tongue.

9. Prairie Fire (shooter)

Tequila and tabasco sauce will take the chill out when you are coming in from the cold. Want it hotter? Add more tabasco, but be careful not to burn your tastebuds.

10. B&B

Smooth and subtle. Choose a good brandy for this drink as it can make or break this classic cocktail. Sipping and enjoying the flavors and aromas of a B&B will give you that warm cozy feeling next to the fireplace in your favorite armchair.
