Haunting Hooch: Corpse Reviver #2011

Halloween is almost upon us and I can tell people are starting to seek out those creepy cocktails already so I thought this is as good of a time as any to kick it off with some haunting hooch picks. First up is the Corpse Reviver #2011.

It is likely that you are aware of the Corpse Reviver. It's a classic cocktail of brandy and vermouth - simple, sweet, and rocks your world and, as Harry Craddock alluded to in 1930, made for the walking dead, to be "taken before 11 a.m." Or, you may know of the gin version, the Corpse Reviver #2, which is an equally fantastic drink of days of old.? Fast forward about 80 years, we have the Corpse Reviver #2011 from Hendrick's Gin and it takes after #2.

Three changes have been made in CR #2011. One is switching from an orange liqueur to a blood orange option, namely the one by Solerno. Another is the specified gin, one of those new takes on gin, Hendrick's (website) being noted for its cucumber. The last is the addition of a drop of Root. Honestly, it has been awhile since I've had Root and it took me a minute to recall it. Now that I have picked that taste out of my memory banks, I realize it's worth revisiting and this seems like a worthy excuse. Root is essentially alcoholic root beer liqueur, based on the herbal root tonic that preceded the carbonated favorite. Check it out (ArtInTheAge.com) if you haven't had the pleasure before.

Enjoy the Corpse Reviver #2011, here's the recipe...
