Allies Cocktail

This cocktail took some thought and I love how the ingredients play off its name. I found this classic drink in Just Cocktails by W.C. Whitfield, which was printed in 1936. That date tells us that the Allies Cocktail refers to the three major players in World War I and each of the three spirits represent those references. You have English gin, French vermouth and Russian Kummel (a caraway seed liqueur that may also include anise, cumin or fennel and is reported to have originated in Holland, but then again, so did gin). It is a fantastic and interesting cocktail and one with a great story.

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  1. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
  2. Stir well.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
